Sarah Welch & James Beard

Printmaker James Beard specializes in screen printing, letterpress, and risograph printing. Together, with artist Sarah Welch, they are Mystic Multiples, an artistic partnership. James explores the creation of interactive art through procedural prompts and communal game play. He is interested in the relationship between creativity and restraint, the democratization of print, and the role of humor in art. Mystic Multiples believes that art and culture should be accessible both in viewing and ownership.

Sarah Welch is an artist, illustrator, and comics-maker. She is a past co-organizer with literary & visual arts organization, Zine Fest Houston. Her work is grounded in the production of comic books, zines, and printed matter. She builds installation “reading rooms” alongside her comics. The reading rooms contain objects and imagery lifted from the books’ narratives. The stories chronicle the present day and speculative future of the US Gulf Coast, intersections of nature and the built environment, and our changing planet.
