Mimi Laquidara
Mimi Laquidara is a multidisciplinary artist interested in phenomenology and observation. By intersecting drawing, sculpture, painting, and photography Laquidara explores the material memory of symbols that are found or commonly exist in the urban space. These symbols are often in dialogue with formal and conceptual aspects such as color, geometry, scale, repetition, and time in the context of dysfunctional architecture and our embodied experience when encountering the extraordinary within the ordinary.
Laquidara has a Bachelor in Fine Arts (BFA) from the Universidad Nacional de Rosario (UNR). In 2012, Laquidara participated in the Programa de Artistas at the Universidad Torcuato Di Tella (UTDT) which focused on critical theory and studio practices, in Buenos Aires. She has been a recipient of the National Fund of the Arts of Argentina (FNA) scholarship (2010, 2011, 2015, 2019). In 2014, she was awarded the Emerging Artist prize by the FNA. In 2016, the Collection of Contemporary Photography of the Editorial Municipal de Rosario published "Esculturas", a compilation of Laquidara´s photographic work. She was part of Escuela FLORA in Bogotá, Colombia. In 2017/2019 she participated in the SOMA Educational Program in Mexico City. Her work has been exhibited in Spain, Colombia, Argentina, United States, and Mexico.
