Fluffy Cactus (Mengtai Zhang + Lemon Guo)
Fluffy Cactus creates immersive performances, films, and installations to explore interiorized socio-cultural experiences. Founded by Mengtai Zhang and Lemon Guo, both interdisciplinary artists from China with backgrounds in music, art, and emerging technology, the studio imagines VR as a space for memory sharing and time traveling, opening up alternate pasts and future whose possibilities are obscured by dominant narratives. Their award-winning VR documentary “Diagnosia", which portrays Mengtai's teenage incarceration in a military-run internet addiction camp in Beijing, has been shown at IDFA, Sundance, Oregon Shakespeare Festival, and SIGGRAPH.
