VIRTUAL OPEN STUDIO with misael soto (Director, Department of Reflection)
Current artist-in-residence misael soto invites you to a virtual tour of their studio at Bemis! This virtual event will include appearances with recent collaborators and a Q+A with Bemis Chief Curator and Director of Programs Rachel Adams.
Misael Soto was born in Puerto Rico and is currently based in Miami, FL. Soto’s practice interrogates and subverts contextually associated everyday objects and systemic roles, disrupting and manipulating space, systems, and frameworks. The time-based and ephemeral work involves interventions made upon existing objects, performative activations, institutional mediations, and is usually a combination of these elements. Soto plans to conduct site-guided genealogical and historical research leading to one or several temporary public installations. Inspired by the visual language that the area considers to be associated with infrastructural progress, this work would continue current exploration into ubiquitous site-specific objects and behaviors, and liminal signifiers and spaces. misaelsoto.com
