Join us for the release of Bemis alum Erik DeLuca’s YouTube album Seeds of Perpetuity. DeLuca will moderate a discussion with friends Pallavi Sen, Autumn Wallace, and Kolbienn Hugi on how seeds and plants work to inspire the critical and creative process.

"Seeds are imaginative vessels that open a covenant of reciprocity. It's no surprise that during this past year of uncertainty there was a blitz of planting seeds. This is because seeds are teachers. They hold knowledge for themselves and beings around them. The seed keeper, Robin Wall Kimmerer writes, “They live both above and below ground, joining Skyworld to the earth. Plants know how to make food from light and water, and then they give it away. I like to imagine that when Skywoman scattered her handful of seeds across Turtle Island, she was sowing sustenance for the body and also for the mind, emotion, and spirit: she was leaving us teachers. The plants can tell us her story; we need to learn to listen.” Cached in an ever-shifting geopolitical transformation, seeds hold pathways to stories about the mess of nature/culture. Seeds are time; they use and are used. During this conversation, we will reflect on how seeds inspire our critical/creative process. In tandem, this event will mark the release of Seeds of Perpetuity—a never-ending, live YouTube album of music. Using machine learning and music information retrieval, a computer music program categorizes a weird discography of records released in the 70s written specifically to help plants grow healthy; this music is transformed into seedlings of sound that grow slowly into ambient, rhizomatic textures." – Erik DeLuca

Pallavi Sen is from Bombay, India. She works with installation, printmaking, textiles, Instagram, and intuitive movement. Autumn Wallace is a visual artist who works across media to create paintings and sculptures that examine human sexuality, gender, and the black femme experience. Influenced by early 90’s cartoons, Byzantine aesthetics, Baroque Style, and what Wallace describes as “low-quality adult materials”, Wallace’s work generates a sense of fluidity whereby figures defy spatial, social, physical, emotional, and psychological boundaries. veggiemon.co

Kolbeinn Hugi is from Iceland and a lost generation that emerged in the wake of the great cataclysmic rift between innocence and irony of the bleak landscape of neo-capitalist Reykjavík of modern times. Taking diverse motifs from 1970s techno-futurism, pseudoarchaeology, and new-age conspiracy theories, his work aims to evoke an alternate model of society and suggests that the world as it is now isn’t necessarily how it has to be. kolbeinnhugi.net

Erik DeLuca is an artist and musician who often blends performance, sculpture, and text, in dialogue with social practice and critique.
