In this hour-long Deep Listening workshop, current artist-in-residence Veronica Anne Salinas will guide participants through exercises to expand your perception of sound.
About
Deep Listening is a creative and meditative practice created by composer Pauline Oliveros that nurtures a deeper consciousness of sound within the listening body. We'll collectively tune our ears with guided listening meditations, introduce the breath & voice, run through creative exercises for light movement, and end with an extreme slow walk.
This workshop aims to expand ways of listening to and with the body as well as with a group. No prior experience with sound or music is necessary!
Veronica Anne Salinas (she/they) is a sound artist, writer, educator, and Deep Listener. Her passion for Deep Listening emerged during her time working with mentor David Dove and Nameless Sound, formerly the Pauline Oliveros Foundation Houston, in Houston, Texas, the birthplace of composer and Deep Listening pioneer, Pauline Oliveros. She explores artistic research through compositions, soundwalks, text scores, improvisation, field recordings, archives, writing, and live performance. As a dedicated listener and teaching artist, Veronica collaborates with the Midwest Society for Acoustic Ecology, Chicago Public Schools, and Campbient to nurture the growth of listening as social practice. She holds an MFA in Sound from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and has studied Deep Listening at the Center for Deep Listening at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
